For the second consecutive time, MDDP named the Most Effective Tax Advisory Firm on the Polish market

In the yesterday’s results of the 5th ranking of tax advisors organised by the daily newspaper Gazeta Prawna,  MDDP won the “Most Effective Tax Advisory Firm” category, repeating its success of last year.  Tomasz Michalik and Małgorzata Sobońska were among the top advisors in their areas of expertise. In recognition of his 2010 track record, Tomasz won the first place in the VAT category, while Małgorzata came in second in litigation.

In the second major category of the ranking, “Best Tax Advisory Firm”, the firm came in second in the large firm group (not including the Big Four companies).

“The results of the ranking confirm that, for the past few years, MDDP has continued to be a leader among advisory firms operating on the Polish market. Furthermore, they show that our team has experts with major accomplishments in their areas of tax law,” said Tomasz Michalik, partner at MDDP.

69 of the best and fastest growing firms in Poland participated in this year’s ranking. For the fifth time now, the editorial panel identified the most effective and best tax advisory firms, designating four groups in which awards were given out: the Big Four, large firms (employing 10 or more tax advisors), medium-sized firms (employing 3 to 9 tax advisors), and small firms (employing up to 2 tax advisors). Such a distinction helps avoid comparing large and small companies and ensures objective assessment.  The most effective firms in 2010, nominated by the editorial panel on the basis of their accomplishments, were: PwC, MDDP, Baker & McKenzie, and Kancelaria Michała Gotowicza (each in its own group). However, the best firm was selected on the basis of stringent numeric criteria: number of tax advisors, number of other professionals authorised to provide tax advice (attorneys-at-law, auditors, persons authorised to provide accounting services), revenue generated per person (from January to December 2010), number of clients, and number of court cases won.

Like last year, the editorial panel selected the best advisors on the basis of firms’ recommendations (each firm nominated its best specialist in each area). The awards were given out in seven categories: income tax, VAT, international tax law, M&A, litigation, tax optimisation, and local taxes and fees.

The complete results of the 5th ranking of tax advisors will be published on 13 April in a special feature entitled “Advice for companies”.
