Poland Indirect Tax Advisory Firm of the Year

MDDP nominated for Poland Indirect Tax Advisory Firm of the Year at the ITR EMEA Tax Awards 2026

We are pleased to announce that MDDP has been nominated in the Poland Indirect Tax Advisory Firm of the Year category at the ITR EMEA Tax Awards 2026.

The nomination confirms MDDP’s strong position in the Polish VAT advisory market. It recognises the team’s landmark litigation successes, innovative advisory projects and tangible impact on the development of tax law in Poland and across the European Union.

Landmark VAT cases

One of the team’s most significant achievements was case C-213/24, Grzera, in which the Court of Justice of the European Union accepted MDDP’s arguments and confirmed that spouses subject to a matrimonial community of property may be treated as a single taxable person for VAT purposes. The judgment changed the existing practice in Poland and may also influence the interpretation of VAT rules in other EU Member States.

MDDP’s experts also represented a client in case T-689/24 – the first Polish tax case heard by the General Court of the European Union following the reform of the EU judicial system. The case concerned the point at which the right to deduct VAT arose, specifically whether it arose when the transaction took place or only upon receipt of the invoice. MDDP successfully demonstrated that the decisive factor was the moment at which the transaction was carried out.

The team also secured important rulings in Poland concerning interest on tax arrears and VAT penalties. The administrative courts accepted arguments based on the EU principle of proportionality, resulting in multi-million financial benefits for taxpayers.

Advisory services addressing new challenges

The nomination also recognises pioneering projects in the energy and e-mobility sectors. MDDP developed, among other solutions, VAT models for cross-border electric vehicle charging services and a VAT recovery model for a multi-billion-dollar energy investment, enabling the recovery of approximately USD 23 million in VAT annually.

MDDP also supports businesses with the implementation of the National e-Invoicing System, known as KSeF, combining tax, process and technology expertise. The team has developed proprietary tools, including the JPK VAT Generator and KSeF Validator, to help companies comply with new reporting requirements.

Impact on European VAT policy

MDDP is Poland’s only representative in the VAT Expert Group advising the European Commission. Its experts contribute to work on the most important reforms of the European VAT system, including VAT in the Digital Age, or ViDA, and Single VAT Registration, while also actively reviewing and commenting on draft Polish legislation.

MDDP’s VAT practice comprises approximately 40 specialists. For eight consecutive years, it has been ranked Tier 1 for Indirect Tax in the ITR World Tax ranking.

The nomination for the ITR EMEA Tax Awards 2026 confirms that the projects and cases handled by MDDP not only deliver tangible benefits to clients but also influence how VAT law is interpreted and applied in Poland and across Europe.
